Thought I might chime in on the unidentified object.  I agree with Mississippi Relic Hunter, this is not a fuse, it is a lamp double wick holder for a small Civil War period oil lamp.  I have dug a number of these at Port Hudson over the years.  Have been trying to find one in my junk box to send y'all a photo of it.  Will keep looking and hopefully be able to send a photo soon.
