Description:Parrott's 2pc percussion fuse was a poor design and so got replaced with the improved 3pc percussion fuse in 1863. Both were inferior to the Schenkl which was eventually prescribed for all percussion shells.

Looking at this design, it is easy to see that the slider part could get cockeyed in the fuse channel and not hit the anvil cap directly. Or the percussion cap could fall off, but in this example it has been glued (can be removed with water) to the iron nipple in the striker.
