Description:Really hard to find R stamped, 1862 dated USN Watercap fuse adapter. Threads are perfect and centercap unscrews. The R is for "reloaded" which was done after cruises out of fear the paper time fuse inside would have been exposed to moisture and no good. After yet another voyage, these were subsequently unscrewed from the shells in port and tossed aside at the base. So a fuse adapter that started life in 1862 during the Civil War got reused for a few decades but never fired. Hence the perfect condition.
