Description:This is similar to the basic CS copper time fuse adapter, but different. As the war progressed and copper became scarce for the Confederacy, they literally had to "cut corners" to save it. So, contrast the taper of the lower portion of the fuse with the typical of these time fuse adapters and you can see what I mean. We see these used in the Atlanta campaign even in elongated shells where normally a longer version would've been used. Sometimes they have remnants of the Girardey percussion fuse element, but this one does not. It does retain a bit of the original paper from the time fuse or the adapter paper stock from a Girardey. These are kind of tough to find. Ultimately on Sherman's march North from Savannah, copper time fuses disappear altogether and the Confederacy had to revert to wooden ones because the copper had all but run out.
