Description:This is what I believe is a model 1859 pattern horse bit. it has very good iron with a beautiful dark brown patina. Both US bosses are still firmly in place. As is often the case it is missing the curb chain.

The verbal provenance on the bit was that it came out of Virginia. It looks much to me like it might have been one of them recovered from the City Point, VA explosion site. There is a slight offset bend that looks like something an explosion would do but I can't be sure.

Three are no markings that I can see. It displays really well.
