Description:This is what is commonly called a limber pole pad but they were used on the end of the carriage poles so they would not bother the horses as much on a turn if the pole dug into the horse's side. This is constructed of stitched leather over padding around a hard cup. This one, unlike many, still retains the pin that holds it on the pole. Most are unmarked such as this one but on occasion you find them with arsenal markings on them. The marked ones bring big bucks. There are a few shapes and sizes but this one is very typical. It is a nice variety items for an artillery collection.
