Description:Very nice M1840 Ames Artillery saber with an uncommon and highly desireable early 1845 date. They only started making these in 1844, and only made 500 in each of the first two years so this is one of the first 1,000 made and one of only 500 made in 1845. It probably saw use in the Mexican American war before being brought back into action in the Civil War.

This is attractively priced and in very nice condition and has the original grip. It has a double strike for the maker mark which is unusual too. Has a small crack on the lower portion of th scabbard. It was sold fairly recently by a dealer, and I obtained it in trade. To see that listing and more pictures, click the link below:
