Description:Nice display piece showing how this shell worked. Powder chamber in the base of the nose section with the floating "pusher plate" above it used to propel the shot in one direction out the nose of the shell. The 3 piece construction of the nose and cup sections, connected by a lead driving band shows the system for expanding on firing and engaging the cannon tube rifling perfectly. This was an advanced design that set the standard for the future.
