Description:
These were ordered by the CS Navy, but condemned as many exploded when being loaded into the rifled muskets! The ones that have been recovered that I know of, all 4 of them, were recovered from CS shells where these had been used as case shot after having been condemned. I got this one from Danny Spencer who got it from Skip Mayorga. Dean Thomas had another one which I recently acquired. The 3rd one was in the possession of the late Margie Bearrs, wife of Ed the NPS Cheif Historian Emeritus. There is also one in the White Oak Museum in Fredericksburg which may be hers. There may be another one in Mac Mason's old bullet collection which is in the hands of a private collector. In sum, these are rare and even the most advanced collections are usually missing them.

Because these were subsequently used in case shot, they are all a bit bent. As can be seen, it is still very displayable and is complete with both the top and bottom.
