Description:
This is a dug, "dropped" (not fired) Civil War era bullet recovered from Holly Springs, MS on private property where Grant had his headquarters and a supply depot. This bullet is popularly called a teardrop bullet and listed as #99 in McKee and Mason's bullet reference book (where they say it is for an "unknown revolver"). In Thomas and Thomas' Handbook of Civil War Bullet and Cartridges, it is listed as #38a -- a .36 caliber pistol bullet from the St. Louis Arsenal.
