Description:
This is an extremely hard-to-find projectile. We are in the midsty of a blizzard here so I cannot get to my reference books but I will update the listing when I can. In the meantime, as my Mother used to tell me when I asked too many questions, "Look it up yourself!"
Aside from the rarity, the provenance on this one is interesting, at least to me. I own a 3in Noble Brothers rifled gun shown below that originally came from Peter Jorgenson who started The Artilleryman Magazine. When he had my gun, it was spiked with 7 rounds in the barrel and the vent hole plugged. He got the 7 rounds out and at least 5 of them were these rare CS imitation Parrott Chill Nose Bolts. This was one of them!
The gun was made in March of 1862 and there were only two made that month. One went North and one Went West. My guess is this is the one that went West and it was lost at Vicksburg. But it could've gone North and been captured up there.
