Description:Clay shells like this one were only recovered by the boys digging the fort at High Bridge, VA. The fort was abandoned during the retreat to Appomattox and the shells were left to be discovered in the 60s. Only 12 of these were recovered so they almost never become available for collectors. Initially they were called "wasp waist Armstrong" shells, but later research proved them to have been for a Clay rifle.
