Description:Fired from the 11-inch Dahlgren smoothbore gun this was the early armament used on the Monitor boats. Due to their use over water they are somewhat hard to come by as battlefield recovered. This is a nice example that is missing the fuse. It was probably removed as a way of disarming it which was occasionally done by some preservationists. This price does not include a fuse but for another $100 I have one that will screw in. The small cannon ball, a 12-lber, is shown only for perspective on this Dahlgren ball's large size.
This shell was used in the heavy bombardment of Fort Fisher.
Shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
