Description:The Bormann fused 12-lber was one of the work horses of the war for both sides but especially the north. The south had issues making safe and reliable fuses. With 12-lber gun and howitzers aplenty these shells saw service in every corner of the war.
This shell is a decent example with good iron having light peppering. It could use a little TLC with a wire brush and a coat of polyurethane which would help the looks a good bit. I'd be glad to do that for the buyer if they wish or leave it natural as it is. This is a common shell with a weight of 7lb 15oz. The fuse is kind of present but that galvanic action while being in ground has caused a good bit (at least 70%) of it to flake away so that all that remains is a dished white disk and none of the face evident. This is why the excellent low price for a Bormann with no pitting.
Shell is disarmed. It is not cleaned or coated.
