Description:The Parrott rifles were part of the standard armament for Sherman when he started his march through Georgia. This shell is from the estate of a digger who lived outside Atlanta and hunted all around the city.
This example is a common shell and the inside cavity is open and rather clean. The iron is good and solid with only some surface ground action; no deep pitting. There is only a very small amount of the zinc Parrott fuse adapter remaining in the bottom of the fuse hole; it is essentially gone. But you can see the threads well and it could easily be tapped to clean the threads in order to screw in an adapter. (I can chase the threads if the buyer would like.) This shell has the brass ring sabot fully intact. It does show one small crack but nothing is displaced and it sits solid. You wouldn't notice it until you looked closely. It hasn't been cleaned well and some TLC would make it look better. All in all a good shell for the money.
Shell is inert, somewhat cleaned and coated.
