Description:This is the early style Read shell that employed the wood fuse adapter. The copper adapter is reported by Pete George as showing in late 1862 sites. The Read with bourrelets and the copper sabot is very popular among collectors and this is a nice example. The iron is very good and solid showing a distinct mold seam down both sides. The bourrelets are nice and crisp. There is no evidence of the lathe lug. The copper sabot clearly shows 7 lands-n-grooves. There is one small crack in the sabot in a groove probably from impact but the sabot is not bent. The shell base shows a big lathe dimple. The shell has been coated and has some spotting of the polyurethane but a little cleaning and recoating would likely easily make that go away. A real nice solid shell.

Shell is cleaned, coated and disarmed.
