Description:The bourelleted Read is one of the most desirable of the shells collectors want in their collection. It is so distinctively CS with the rings (bourrelet) on it's body. It is used in all theatres and there are a good number of varieties for the collector to pursue. This particular variety is the Virginia Style.
Note the lighting makes the shell look more shiny than it really is.
This is a very nice condition Read shell that displays great. The iron is very hard and a little TLC cleaning would make the lines even more crisp. The lathe lug mark is very evident just under the CS adapter which is pretty good other than a small chip on one side. Of note there is a space just under the fuse that was occupied by the leather washer. This shell has exhibited the frequently seen strong chipping on one side. This allows the collector to see the base construction of the high ring sabot which has steps in the casting of the sabot to keep it from slipping. The copper sabot has a very nice patina. It also has nice crisp rifling from a saw tooth cannon having 5 lands.
Shell is inert, cleaned and coated.
