Description:This rarity 8 shell is of the style that used the long sabot. This gave a nice long copper sabot to expand into the rifling and I've seen a few that had beautiful rifling. Also evident on this style are thinner bourrelets than typically found on the Virginia style Read shells.
This shell is a nice display piece. The iron exhibits properties of a shell found in water. The iron has some scaling on one side but nothing deep and still looks ok. It is near slick on much of the other side which is a good display side. For the most part the bourrelets are nice and square. An additional neat thing about this shell is that it still contains in very good condition the wood fuse adapter. This is a pretty nice shell.
It is now believed to be a Houston Buffalo Bayou shell which is a very hard to get shell.
Shell is cleaned and coated.
