Description:First let me apologize there are no images on this shell. Due to the weather I haven't unpacked from the Franklin Show and it will be a couple days before I can get to it. I will send images if requested unless it sells. So for now the picture of the cannon in the snow falling at Kennesaw Mountain Military Park will have to suffice. :)
This is workhorse of the war. The 30-lber Parrott had a size where the gun that fired it was still decently mobile if not in a hurry and it had the power to do some damage. This was a very popular caliber in siege situations and you see them used to great effect at Fort Pulaski, Charleston, Vicksburg and many other battles. It is one of my favorite cannon.
This particular projectile looks to have been cleaned but it is uncoated and a little TLC would really make it look better. It has a nice brass sabot showing rifling. The iron on the lower half of the shell is pretty good but there is some pitting around the nose. All in all a good example of a projectile that would be $300+ if real nice all over.
