Description:The plates and most of the balls for this round were recovered at Spanish Fort, AL. In the ORs, the digger read where a Federal round had exploded a caisson and sent a couple Rebs flying in the air. Over 30 years ago, our intrepid digger found the remains of this caisson and it had 12pdr shells and canister. The irons for the limber chests were all bent and I thought about getting them from him for a display, but it would've been near impossible to showcase so I got the projectiles only. I was 3 shot short of the 27 needed reconstructing this so used some spare ones on hand. This is the last of the Spanish Fort canister I have. The plates and 24 of the 27 shot are CS. I don't know about the other 3 shot in the round.
David Gotter reconstructed this and brought it to me at the Franklin Show. He does excellent work and has a multi award winning display on canister.
