Description:We have only ever had a couple of these. This is an original 12 pounder solid shot strapped to the original wooden sabot. Condition is very good.

The iron has no pitting as you'd expect. There is a very light natural rust showing as the shell is uncoated. I'll leave it to the buyer if he wants a light coat of poly on it. As you can tell in one of the pictures if you slide a metal strap slightly to the side you can see the shadow of the strap showing the ball and straps have been in position for a long time. Note there is also some pieces of masking tape on the ball down near the sabot. I see no writing and am not sure why it is there but will also remove that if the buyer would like.

In most cases the wood sabot has quite a number of chips along the bottom edge where the groove is. This one has two small ones on opposite sides. Most of these have cracks (checking) from drying over the years. This one has one right next to a strap that has not opened up much and is much better than most. That is probably due to the old (not original) piece of wire that was wrapped in the groove to help prevent checking. This can be removed if the buyer would like. The nails that hold the strap are all old and as far as I know are original to the ball. There is one nail missing.

All in all a great and hard to find projectile for your collection. It can be conveniently picked up the weekend of 12/3/2016 at the Franklin Show if attending.
