Description:This is a rebuilt canister for the 12-lber gun. This was a major tool for the army to use when the enemy was getting too close which turned a cannon into a large shot gun that could blow large holes into the advancing lines of the attackers.
The pieces all match so there is a real good chance they were at least found in the same area if not the same hole. The center balls are present unlike some that just rebuilt with the outside layer of balls. The top and bottom plate are flat and show no signs of being fired. Note that this round is made with two bottom plates. This is frequently done by people doing reconstruction because the top plate is usually destroyed by firing or rusted away as it is so thin. It is very hard to find even decent top plates
The canister displays well and looks better than in the image. It appears the balls and plates were cleaned then protected with rust inhibitor which gives it the black look and then the parts were glued together.
