Description:If you like cannon balls you'll love this. These don't come up very often and are a neat projectile. This one is a consignment piece from a major artillery author and collector.
This is a 24-lber Coehorn mortar ball for the easily portable Coehorn mortar. I belived these are only found in Virginia along the Petersburg lines. Both the Union and Confederates used the Coehorn mortar but the South added the lifting ears which were actually used to position the ball fuse outward in the mortar and thus eliminated the need for the wood cup the North used.
This ball is in good condition with a clean fuse hole and lifting ears. Iron shows minor ground action from many years of being buried on the battlefield area but this is a good specimen and you shouldn't let it get away if you need one. I almost upgraded mine with this one.
