Description:This Mullane is one nice example that I recently picked up of what is one of my favorite shells. The iron, sabot, pins, bolt and fuse hole are all in excellent condition. You can clearly see the spot where the lathe lug is broken off and also a raised spot where the vent hole was. This is a shell that would be hard to upgrade.
One thing neat about this shell is that it was fired at the Battle of the Big Black River just east of Vicksburg, Mississippi. This area is known for the (dropped) Mullanes (also known as Tennessee Sabot shells) and other types of CS shells found in the caisson in the Big Black River but this is not one of them. You don't see a lot of shells used in the actual battle but this is one. The river shells were a longer pattern and the sabot is clearly fired.
This shell has been disarmed, cleaned and coated.
