Description:Here is something rarely seen and very neat. It is what is known as a "Selma Grenade". Really much like a small cannon ball it contained a small wooden fuse adapter with a paper cartridge that the grenadier lit and threw over the ramparts or onto the ship among the enemy. The shell weighs about 1 pound 4 ounces and is 2.5 inches in diameter so it would be like throwing a baseball for the Confederate soldier.
This was recovered some time ago from the river in Selma, Alabama. More information can be provided to the buyer
Condition on this one is pretty good. The original owner used some filler to smooth out some scaling it had but the grenade seems to be pretty complete and displays very well. The fuse hole is nice and the internal cavity is pretty clean. This is a relic that rarely comes up for sale.
Grenade has been disarmed, cleaned and coated.
