Description:The iron on this shell is about as nice as you could ask for. It really shows how nice iron can come out of the Vicksburg soil. Like many of them this one lost its sabot when fired but that gives you the view of the clean junction area of the shell. You can clearly see the tapering top and bottom halves along with the grooves for the lead to fit into and hold them together. The crack where the cup fits the nose is quite clean but these are not a put together. The shell was dug this way and they have not been separated. This example does not appear to have been cast with the date on the cup.

The shell is disarmed, cleaned and coated.
