Sorry, this item is no longer available!

Item Number: A00501

Item Title: 6pdr Polygonal spherical shell, rarity 8

Price: $425

Shipping: Not included

Provenance: CS

Type: Polygonal cavity spherical shell

Size: 6pdr

Sabot:

Fuse: Wood time fuse adapter (missing)

Book:
Dickey and George (1993 Edition) Page 30

Location Recovered: Spanish Fort, AL

Description:This was fired from Lumsden's Battery. They complained that their 6pdr "popgun" was not up to the task, and this was true as it was dwarfed by the rest of the ordnance on the field and in the forts.

This is a rare (D&G rarity 8) shell with the five sided polygonal cavity pieces. We all know the story of Col. Mallett's polygonal cavity cannon balls, but few 6pdr polygonal shells survive, mostly 12pdrs or even 24pdrs.
