Description:This was fired from a captured Sawyer gun positioned at Redoubt #4 alongside a Skates and a Blakely rifle. The rifling matches up perfectly and I have several sabots from there as well as a couple bolts. This is the only shell. As is often the case with these sabots, it bent back upon firing. It is all there and has a crisp "R" stamp on it. Dickey and George list this as a rarity 9 shell. They are really hard to come by and I paid a lot more than this for the other one in my collection.

This was recovered a long time ago on private property with permission. The forestry products company has since given over much of this land to the state park and also for housing development, but when this was dug, it was all privately owned woods back in there, and by the way the battlefield was a lot better preserved than it is now that its a park. When we visited there were RVs parked all around, not far from where this was recovered, and horse paths along the top of the breastworks. Redoubt 4 has been reconstructed and you can look out to see the view the gunner's who fired this round had.
