Description:This is one of the less common Schenkl types, the 3.67in one with the grooves as opposed to raised ribs. It has Tom Dickey's mark #45 on the butt end. I have spent a lot of time in that area and was not aware these types of shells got used there -- I have seen Hotchkiss shells and Bormann balls from there before. So, I am unsure about this or if it was in the general vicinity around Savannah where Tom did a lot of digging both with and without permission.
In any event, the iron is fabulous so it could well have come from the sandy earth of the Low Country. It has a nice Schenkl percussion fuse that unscrews but not easily. D&G have this shell listed as a rarity 7+
