Description:This is a really neat and impressive large caliber shell. The zinc studs fit in rifled grooves in the rifle barrel to give the shell a twist upon firing. This is similar to how the English Armstrong shells were designed but the studs on them are copper. This also has a flat bottom which I understand means it is French. You see the smaller caliber ones of these all the time advertised as American Civil War, but I think they were used around the same time but only in Europe and these big boys are more impressive and less common.
