Description:This is a standard US 3-inch percussion Schenkl shell that has been re-used by the Confederates. With this shell you will have something very few people have and it tells multiple stories:
1) Shows the South picked up US ordnance and reused them to help keep the CS troops supplied.
2) It is a shell fired twice during the Civil War - Once by the North and once by the South.
3) It shows the South could not adequately manufacture the paper sabot so resorted to using a wooden sabot fitting the shell with a pin to hold the sabot in place.
4) To replace the used Schenkl percussion fuse the south designed a CS copper adapter with 10 threads per inch (TPI) unlike the ones in a Read shell which have 12 TPI. This shell is fitted with this rare fuse.
And to boot, this shell has fabulous iron. You would be hard pressed to upgrade this shell. A quality CS collection needs to have one of these.
Shell has been disarmed, cleaned and coated.
