Description:A very nice James Type-I shell for the brass 14 pounder James rifle which is a dropped round from the battle of Shiloh and still has the sabot. The Type-I is the variety with the ribbed columns and are one of the most desirable shells by collectors due to the classical design. Every collection should have one. The iron is good but some cleaning could make it look even better if the buyer wanted. Sabot is intact all the way around and still has much of the tin and some canvas present. Typically the sabots on drops are much corroded due to the layers of metal causing galvanic action which eats them up. A very nice shell and most assuredly dug a long time ago. The fuse has a very nice green patina.

Projectile is disarmed through the base, cleaned and coated.
