Description:This is a truly unique offering. This sale is for both cannon balls for one price. It is a pair of perfect condition 12 pounder common shells with a fuse hole for the wood adapter. The insides of the shells are a clean as the outside.
What makes these special is that they were recovered as part of find that included 27 rounds of these and a case. Included with them is a card from the dealer Larry Hicklen who sold these some years back. He is now known as Middle Tennessee Civil War Relics but back then was known as Yesteryear. The card reads:
Franklin Tenn
Masonic Lodge
Gen. Hood's
general supply & storage depot
1 case - 27 rounds
In addition to Larry's business info. Condition is outstanding as they are non-battlefield found in the sense they were never in the ground. But they are battlefield found in the sense they were abandoned in a building on the Franklin battlefield by General Hood's men. Unfortunately at the time it was not thought to keep all 27 together or a buyer couldn't be found and they went in various directions. I'm sure many of those have lost their provenance.
These are only being sold as a pair at this time and for a very fair price. They are super clean, do not seem to be coated but have a natural finish and are disarmed.
