Description:Note: If the buyer doesn't like the white writing I can easily remove it at no charge to the buyer.
A not too common shell this one is in near mint condition. This is a 3.8-inch Hotchkiss made for the James Rifle. Most are found at Vicksburg.
The iron body on this shell is slick on all sides. There is no ground action to be found. The patent date is distinct on the base cup as well as the lathe dimple.
Most in this caliber have the Hotchkiss time fuse in them. This shell has a near mint iron anvil percussion fuse with some clean threads showing that appear it would not be hard to screw it out. I'll leave that to the buyer if they want it screwed out.
The sabot is very much intact with no pulls which is often seen. Some faint rifling can be seen indicating a worn out brass gun. It has a nice white patina in good condition.
This will be a hard one to upgrade and is better than any in my collection but I have to keep the ones I found.
Shell is cleaned, coated and inert.
