Description:(Updated with better images after cleaning.)

A popular shell before the Civil War the 18 pounder saw little action during the war. Some of these have been found around the defenses of Washington DC. A few of the 18 pounders were rifled by the Confederates and their projectiles are very valuable.

This particular one is really neat in that it has a very large sprue hole left by the cooling of the iron and an incomplete fill. This is something that I think would not pass CS quality inspection and thus I think it is very likely a pre-Civil War ball and likely US as the British balls were almost always of good quality as well even then. It could be Rev War or War of 1812.
