Description:This is a really neat 12 pounder Bormann cannon ball. In addition to be being dug and in good condition, it still has the better part of all 4 straps on it and the fuse ring indicating it has not been fired.
All indications are it is a common shell and not case. The shell looks like it has very good iron under the surface rust but in order to preserve the straps it hasn't been cleaned. Perhaps someone with greater skill than I can remove the rust if so desired. The fuse appears unpunched although it does have a corrosion spot at 12 o'clock that could be a punch but I don't think so. It appears you can see the powder in the powder train at this point. Other than that corrosion spot the fuse is quite smooth and appears to be a Braille fuse. It seems the dots can be seen in a couple spots and I think if the thick varnish were removed the spots might show.
The shell is disarmed and coated with a thick coating of varnish or polyurethane. This is a really good shell for someone who likes their projectiles to look dug.
