Description:One of those shells that every Confederate artillery collection needs as it was used extensively throughout the various theatres of the war. Many had a wood fuse plug but this one has a near perfect copper adapter. The iron has a heavy salt-n-pepper surface that is mostly due to the poor foundry iron than anything. There are no big pits and the shell displays quite well. As you can see the wrought iron sabot is intact all the way around the shell and clearly shows the 3 lands-n-grooves of the Parrott rifle it was fired from. A very prominent and clean lathe dimple is in the base. All around an excellent Confederate Read shell for the money.
The shell has been recently disarmed, cleaned and coated and ready for your display.
