 Because they are dug out of sandy soil, few of these bullets have a patina.  To make matters worse, someone got ahold of a mold and cranked out a lot of these about 20 years ago.  Those have since aged to a smooth color that looks like pencil graphite.  The real ones have some salt and peppering with white in there.  it is a  .45 caliber which is why they were originally associated with Whitworth sniper rifles which are also that caliber.  Previously these were known as "Double Ended Whitworths."  This one is a real bargain.
