Description: This 7" Brooke bolt was dug with others
during construction of a wing of the "Mobile Infirmary" which is a large
hospital in Mobile, Alabama. You can do a Google map of 5 Mobile Infirmary
Circle Mobile, AL 36607 and note its strategic position overlooking Mobile Bay.
It has been out of the ground for nearly 50 years.
These big bolts were intended to smash through armor plating of ironclads.
Outstanding condition. For close to 20 years it was displayed with some other
projectiles in the Selma Museum in Selma, AL. All the projectiles including this
one were believed to have been manufactured in Selma. The display was closed and
the owner reclaimed his projectiles so they did not go to eternity in a warehouse like the Ark of the
Covenant in that Indiana Jones movie. Brookes are super desirable owing to
their ratchet sabot design. I have a spare sabot and it weighs over 7
pounds -- pure copper! It will be hard to find a nicer specimen.
